dementor: Harry’s worst memory is the night his parents died. When a dementor gets to close, he hears his father yelling for his Mum to grab him and run. He’ll then hear his mother begging with Voldemort to kill her instead and to spare Harry. If he can’t conjure a Patronus in time and falls under the Dementors influence, he faints and goes into a convulsion.
patronus: Harry’s Patronus, to Harry, is more than just protection against Dementors. To him, it symbolizes a connection with the Father he admires so; letting him know that his father is still with him to this day. His Patronus takes on the form of a Stag, which was both his father’s Animagus and Patronus forms as well. The memory he uses varies from time to time depending on his mood. When he had been learning the spell under Remus Lupin, he had used a ‘memory’ of him just talking with his parents. Later that same year while protecting his Godfather from hundreds of Dementors, Harry attempted to use the memory of him Leaving the Dursley’s to live with Sirius (he preformed the corporeal Patronus that same moment with the knowledge that he’d already done it).
While teaching Dumbledore’s Army, Harry used the idea of helping others, preparing them, for the threat that was silently lurking outside the safety of the Castle walls to help produce his Patronus as a demonstration. Later that same year, he conjured it for his O.W.L. examiner; using the image of Umbridge getting sacked.

describe your character in three words: Brave, Loyal, Hero
personality overview: Harry Potter is an extremely brave, loyal and selfless person who possesses tremendous strength of character. Harry is also marked by what Hermione Granger once deemed a "saving-people thing" — he will go to great lengths and take great risks in order to help others, particularly his loved ones. Notably, this was taken advantage of by Voldemort in 1996, when he lured Harry to the Department of Mysteries by making him believe that his godfather was in danger. Harry is also very strong-willed, unafraid to stand up for himself and able to resist the Imperius Curse at a young age. Dumbledore once made parallels between Harry's traits and qualities that Salazar Slytherin looked for in his own hand-picked students.
However, Harry has also been accused of being arrogant, in particular by Severus Snape, and can be hot-tempered and impulsive. This can sometimes make him rude to authority figures such as Professor Snape and Professor Umbridge, and irritable even with his friends. Harry was prone to moodiness at least during his adolescence, though this is likely the result of the great emotional stress and trials he endured during this period. Although he is clever, Harry also lacks intellectual curiosity, rarely putting forth effort into school work; for example, he relies on the notes of the "Half-Blood Prince" to get ahead in his sixth-year Potions class rather than devoting time to studying. Harry also seems to have a bit of an obsessive personality; when he sets his mind on something, he will put all other responsibilities aside till he figures out what he needs.
Harry's greatest strength, though, is his great capacity to love, despite having a miserable childhood of neglect. Harry is fiercely loyal to and protective of his loved ones, and that love was what allowed him to overcome Voldemort. Harry even claimed that he felt sorry for Voldemort because of his inability to feel or understand love.

history overview: Harry James Potter was born on 31 July, 1980, to James and Lily Potter, members of the first Order of the Phoenix at the height of the First Wizarding War. From birth, he lived in hiding with his parents after Lord Voldemort marked them for death. They lived in the village of Godric's Hollow in a home put under the Fidelius Charm to keep them hidden. As part of the charm, they had planned to make their Secret-Keeper Sirius Black, but acting on his advice, they changed this designation to Peter Pettigrew, as they thought he would be less suspicious. In a terrible turn of fate, it happened that Pettigrew was a spy for Voldemort. He betrayed James and Lily Potter, faked his own death, and framed Sirius Black for everything.
On the evening of 31 October, 1981, Lord Voldemort arrived at Godric's Hollow and ended the lives of Harry's parents; he started with James, who tried to stand up to him; unfortunately he did not have his wand with him and was killed immediately. Voldemort then advanced on Lily Potter, who died protecting Harry. Her sacrifice prevented the Killing Curse from working. Her love for Harry became a barrier protecting her son; when Voldemort attempted the curse on the child, it backfired, and instead of killing Harry, Voldemort lost all his powers and physical form but was saved from death by his multiple Horcruxes. Harry became the only person known to have survived the Killing Curse. The failed curse left a lightning bolt-shape scar on his forehead. The scar would be a bane and a blessing to Harry in the years to come, as it opened a telepathic link between Lord Voldemort and himself. He became famous even at the age of one for thus defeating Lord Voldemort.
After his parents were killed, Harry was sent to live with his only living relatives, the Dursley’s. He spent the next ten years of his life never knowing that he was special or famous. Instead, he spent those years being abused by his Aunt and Uncle, and bullied by his own cousin. It wasn’t until the extreme, early hours of his eleventh birthday that Harry found out what he was. For the past few days, his Uncle had had the family moving none stop to avoid mysterious letters that were being addressed to Harry. Harry hadn’t been sure who they belonged to, as he wasn’t a part of any club and had no friends to write too; until he met Rubeus Hagrid. Hagrid was the one who told Harry what he was and why he was famous; and also personally gave him his Hogwarts letter. He then had the best birthday of his life, shopping for all his school supplies and enjoying Hagrid’s company.
Harry first met the Weasley at King’s Cross, trying to find out how to get onto Platform 9 3/4; Hagrid had failed to tell him how. He was better introduced firs to the twins as they helped him carry his trunk onto the train, and then to his Best friend Ron as they shared a compartment. It was also on the train that he met Hermione Granger, Neville Longbottom, and Draco Malfoy; quickly disliking one, not really caring for the second, and loathing the third.
Upon reaching Hogwarts, Harry faced his first challenge; the sorting hat. It originally wanted to put him in Slytherin. However, hearing nothing but bad things about it, he begged with the hat to put him anywhere but. And thus Harry ended up in Gryffindor; telling no one but Dumbledore of the hats first decision. While Harry immediately took to Ron, he did not immediately befriend Hermione, though he was nicer to her than Ron was. On Halloween, a Mountain Troll was let into the school. The students were sent back to their Common Rooms, but Harry realized that Hermione did not know about the Troll, since she was in the bathroom crying as Ron had made fun of her earlier in the day. Harry and Ron went to the girl’s bathroom and found the troll bearing down on Hermione. After Harry stuck his wand up its nose, Ron was able to knock the troll out with its own club. Hermione lied to the professors when they came to investigate to keep Harry and Ron out of trouble. From that point on, the three were best friends.
He also found he was a natural in flying. This boosted Harry’s Moral about himself greatly. It was the first thing he didn’t have to study to know! He challenged Malfoy in the air for Neville’s Remembrall, catching it after a fifty foot dive and rolling safely on the ground. When McGonagall arrived, sputtering at him, he was sure he was being expelled. Imagine his surprise when he found himself the youngest Seeker in a Century.
Meanwhile, Lord Voldemort, long presumed dead, was secretly mounting a return. Using the new Professor of Defense Against the Dark Arts, Quirinus Quirrell, as a host body, he was able to search for the Philosopher's Stone, which he believed would restore him to his body and grant him everlasting life. Voldemort was thwarted by Harry, with great help from Ron and Hermione. Overall, the events of Harry's first year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry set the three students in a bond of everlasting friendship which would carry them through every obstacle that came to them from the forces of Darkness.
His second year, found him almost expelled due to a House Elf trying to save his life by preventing him from returning to Hogwarts. The House Elf, Dobby, came to Privet Drive to warn Harry of ‘Dark, bad things to happen at Hogwarts this year’. And because Harry defeated You-Know-Who, he was also a hero among the lesser creatures such as Dobby. Despite his attempt to keep Harry at the Dursley’s, Potter found himself for the first time at the Burrow, falling in love with the place instantly.
However things didn’t get better there. On September first, the Weasley’s were running late and decided to go in pairs through the barrier to the Hogwarts Express. With Ron and Harry being last, Dobby sealed the barrier, preventing the two of them from entering. However, this did not stop Harry from returning to Hogwarts, he and Ron used the Weasley’s' Flying Ford Anglia to follow the train to Hogwarts. They arrived later than they had hoped, but all in one piece; until Ron accidentally drove the flying car into the Whomping Willow and broke his wand.
However, Harry's year at Hogwarts was not going to get any better. Throughout the year, the new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher, Gilderoy Lockhart, humiliated Harry repeatedly by dragging Harry into the spotlight against Harry's will. During a dueling class led by Lockhart, Harry revealed himself to his fellow students and members of staff to be a Parselmouth, an uncommon skill that is normally associated with dark wizards. This bought on a great deal of trouble for Harry, since the Chamber of Secrets had been re-opened, and it was the "Heir of Slytherin" who was deemed responsible. Muggle borns were now being attacked and everyone was pointing the finger at Harry, except for fellow Gryffindor’s who knew Harry better.
All thoughts of Harry being the Heir were quickly dispelled when Hermione was attacked; everyone knowing that Harry would not attack one of his best friends. Later that same night, Harry and Ron went to Hagrid’s, attempting to seek answers. Shortly after their arrival, the Minister of Magic appeared to arrest Hagrid, leaving Harry and Ron a clue to follow the Spiders. This led to the unfortunate meeting with Aragog, who gave them some clues, but they tried to have his offspring’s eat them. Upon putting all the pieces together, Harry (along with Ron and Lockhart) ventured down into the Chamber of Secrets to Save Ginny. Thanks to Lockhart, Harry was separated from the others and had to continue on his own. Upon reaching the Chamber, he came face to face with a sixteen year old Tom Riddle, and a dying Ginny. With the help of Fawkes the Phoenix, Harry narrowly escaped Death once again, killing the Basilisk, Tom Riddle, and saving Ginny.
The summer before his Third year found Harry once again escaping from his Aunt and Uncles house (he had blown his Aunt Marjorie up to the size of a balloon). Thinking that he had surely been expelled, Harry accidently found himself on the Knight Bus using Neville Longbottom’s name and heading to Diagon Alley, where he came to an unexpected surprise. The Minister of Magic himself was waiting for Harry, and he wasn’t being expelled. Over the summer, news was spreading of the first ever escape from Azkaban, the Wizarding prison. Sirius Black, the supposed killer of James and Lily Potter and Voldemort’s greatest supporter. While on his way to Hogwarts, the train was stopped by Dementors and Harry Passed out, hearing the voice of a lady screaming in the distance. This year he was also starting Divinations, and Professor Trelawney was only to happy to predict his death at least five times a class period. He would also meet Remus Lupin as his D.A.D.A. Professor, and would strike up a friendship with him, learning that he knew both of his parents and recognized Harry not by his scar, but by his eyes; as they belonged to his Mother.
He would later that same year meet Sirius Black; by first attempting to kill him and then saving him, and Peter Pettigrew as well. Harry learned the truth about what happened the Night his Parents were killed and that Sirius hadn’t betrayed them, although he did feel responsible for their deaths. While attempting to bring Pettigrew to the castle to hand over and free Sirius’ name; they were caught in the Full Moon and Remus turned into a Werewolf, nearly killing everything; but stopped by Sirius in his Animagi form. Harry was saved by a swarm of Dementors from himself from the future, who cast the Patronus Charm to save both himself and Sirius from The Kiss.
The Summer before his Fourth Year, Harry once again found himself a Guest at The Burrow; this time with permission and to go to the Quidditch World Cup. The night after the match, while the Irish team's supporters were still celebrating, a group of black-cloaked, hooded figures held terrifying celebrations of their own by suspending the Muggle campsite manager and his family in air like twisted marionettes. On Mr. Weasley's orders, Harry fled into the woods near the campsite, along with Ron, Hermione, Fred, George, and Ginny. The group was separated in the woods, and in the chaos, Harry believed he had lost his wand. The trio ran into Draco Malfoy, and he all but told them that his father was among the cloaked wizards. Later, Harry learned that Barty Crouch Jr., had stolen his wand from his pocket. While in a clearing in the woods, Harry, Ron, and Hermione heard someone shout the incantation Morsmordre, casting the Dark Mark - a green skull with a snake protruding from its mouth like a tongue - into the sky. Although Harry did not immediately recognize its significance, he soon learned that the Dark Mark had evil implications. Then, Barty Crouch Sr., Amos Diggory, and other Ministry of Magic employees apparated into the clearing and began to question Harry, Ron, and Hermione about the Dark Mark. After Harry mentioned he had heard another voice conjure the Dark Mark, the Ministry employees searched the area and found the house-elf Winky unconscious in the bushes. Since Harry's wand was found in Winky's hand, Mr. Crouch fired her for shaming his family and disobeying his orders.
At Hogwarts, Harry found himself the unwilling Fourth Champion in the Triwizard tournament. He faced attacks from all sides, including from Ron. However, the school seemed to warm up to him after completing the First Task and getting past the Hungarian Horntail. Alastor Moody was the new Defense teacher, and started teaching the students about the three Unforgiveable’s, casting the Imperius curse on Harry until he was able to completely throw it off. For the Second Task, Harry had to retrieve Ron from the Merpeople in the Lake. And although he was the first one there, he was last to resurface, well past the time limit making sure all Hostages were saved. For the third task, Harry found himself in a Maze, fighting to get to the center where the Tri-Wizard cup awaited. During this final event, Hogwarts champions Cedric Diggory and Harry both showed supreme sportsmanship and cooperation despite the tension brought on by the maze and agreed to touch the Triwizard Cup simultaneously, planning to tie for first place. They were unaware it was actually a Portkey and were transported to the graveyard in Little Hangleton, the Riddle family's final resting place, where Lord Voldemort was waiting. On Voldemort's order, his servant Peter Pettigrew (aka Wormtail) murdered Cedric with the Killing Curse.
Harry was bound to Tom Riddle Sr.'s tombstone and forced to witness a ritual in which Pettigrew used some of Harry's blood to restore Voldemort's body. At which time, the Death Eaters were summoned to the cemetery. After Voldemort regained a full-size human form and explain his downfall and disappearance to his followers, he engaged Harry in a duel. Voldemort then tortured Harry with Cruciatus Curse and then tried to kill him with the Killing Curse. The nature of their wands' mystical connection caused their magical streams to interlock, which created an effect called Priori Incantatem. After a battle of wills with Voldemort, Harry was momentarily shielded by the echoes of Lord Voldemort's previous victims including Harry's parents and Cedric who asked Harry to return his body to his parents, which allowed him time to grab Cedric's body and the Portkey and escape back to Hogwarts.
It was uncovered that Barty Crouch Jr, who had willingly taken the Dark Mark as a young man, was throughout the school year disguised as Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher Alastor Moody. In a terrible turn of fate, Crouch's soul was destroyed by the Dementor's Kiss from the Dementor that accompanied Cornelius Fudge. As a result, he could not give testimony, and the Ministry of Magic began to dispute Harry and Dumbledore's insistence that Voldemort had returned insisting that Dumbledore was trying to stir up trouble and that Harry was insane.
The Summer before his fifth year, Harry felt as if everyone had isolated him, leaving him to cope with Cedric’s death by himself. While out with his Cousin (not by choice!) Harry was attacked by two Dementors. In a last ditch effort to protect his cousin and himself, Harry cast the Patronus Charm, sending the Dementors away, but also receiving a letter informing him he’d been expelled from Hogwarts. Dumbledore managed to pull some strings and got Harry a trail to prove his innocents, in which he was cleared of all charges. He spent the rest of that Summer making Number twelve Grimmauld Place livable at the Order Headquarters.
Returning to Hogwarts did not improve Harry’s mood, not only did he have to fend off students and their remarks, but he had to deal with Dolores Umbridge who did her best to expel harry and perhaps even put him away in Azkaban. He also had these strange dreams and visions that he received in his sleeping. However one of these visions ended up saving Arthur Weasley’s life as he was attacked on Order Business. In an act of defiance to Umbridge not teaching anything in D.A.D.A., Harry (along with Ron and Hermione) started the Group Dumbledore’s Army. He also had a small fling with Cho Chang, but ended it when she wanted to do nothing but talk about Cedric. During his O.W.L.s Harry received another vision of Sirius Being tortured in the Department of Mysteries. As soon as he was able to, and with a few loyal members of D.A., Harry set out to the M.O.M. to save his Godfather.
After reaching the Department of Mysteries, Harry led them through various rooms in search of Sirius, without finding him. The group became doubtful until they came across a room filled with crystal balls, later to be known as prophecies. One of the prophecies had Harry's name on it, and he picked it up, much to the displeasure of Hermione. Upon picking up the prophecy Death Eaters appeared, revealing that it was all a ruse to bring him there. Chaos ensued, and all but Harry and Neville were incapacitated in the fighting. Then reinforcements from the Order of the Phoenix, alerted by Snape, arrived to help aid in the battle. In the ensuing fighting, Sirius Black was pushed by a curse from his cousin, Bellatrix Lestrange, through a mysterious stone arch to his death. Harry, enraged, pursued Bellatrix, using the Cruciatus Curse, but he was unable to kill her.
Voldemort appeared, enraged by the failures of his Death Eaters. For the second time, he attempted to fatally curse Harry, who was too transfixed to even defend himself, but Dumbledore's sudden arrival saved him. Voldemort then possessed Harry, hoping that Dumbledore would sacrifice Harry in order to kill Voldemort. However, Voldemort was forced to leave Harry's body when Harry grieved for Sirius, which Voldemort failed to understand. Voldemort then grabbed Bellatrix and Disapparated, but the Minister and Ministry employees saw him first.
Back at Hogwarts, Dumbledore explained to Harry the real reason why Voldemort tried to kill him as an infant. A prophecy stated that he was destined to defeat the Dark Lord, for he had powers Voldemort did not: the ability to love, something that the Department of Mysteries was trying to research in a locked room.
As a result of the battle, the Ministry of Magic realized that Lord Voldemort had returned, and Harry and Dumbledore were vindicated. Serious steps were taken following this change in policy such as the sacking of Dolores Umbridge. However, this was not a sea change as the Ministry still had a mistrust of Dumbledore.
Harry spent the start of his summer in a depression over Sirius’ death; thinking if he’d been that much smarter than maybe his Godfather would still be alive and he wouldn’t be alone. Dumbledore himself arrived at Privet Drive to speak with his Aunt and Uncle and took Harry from the house and ended to a small, village to recruit Professor Slughorn to return to Hogwarts. He spent the remained of his summer at The Burrow, receiving his letters and Captain Badge for the Gryffindor Quidditch team.
His sixth year, he would take ‘private lessons’ with Dumbledore: learning the truth about Voldemort and his past. It would also be this year that he started a relationship with Ginny Weasley, although it would be cut short at the end of the year at Dumbledore’s funeral. The headmaster was murdered by Snape before Harry’s eyes after he became weak and ill from drinking a potion to obtain a Horcrux: A part of Voldemort’s soul. Harry would later learn that the Horcrux was fake. He would return to Privet Drive one last time before taking off to the Burrow; where he spent a few weeks with Ron and Hermione, attempting to plan their next ‘adventure’ of finding the rest of the Horcruxes.

He knew Voldemort had been dangerous. Before his first down fall and even now, after his rebirth. The fact that he was someone more dangerous… more unstable brought chills to Harry; causing his hair to stand on end. It was bad enough to have a mad man after you, but finding out that he was even madder than one had expected. It caused the uncertainties to rise; and it wasn’t a welcome feeling.[/size]
He had already assumed there would be extra protection around the students: and not just for his benefit as well. But after having taken such a risky move back in June and personally coming to the Ministry of Magic to deal with the failings of his Death Eaters, why not try something just as dangerous? Of course, he assumed Voldemort hadn’t expected to get caught: to have been in and out of the Ministry before anyone ever came and his dealings done. And perhaps he would have succeeded if it hadn’t been for Dumbledore showing up when he had. Harry had no doubt in his mind that he would have died there in the lobby of the Ministry if the Headmaster hadn’t come when he had. While his actions that night had been reckless and foolish (there was no way he could deny those) he had once again –though, admittedly, unawares- thwarted Voldemort’s plans.
The previous June, he had survived the Graveyard: bringing Diggory’s body back to Hogwarts to announce the Dark Lord’s return –mostly onto deaf ears. But he had allowed the Order time to plan and prepare. And just this past June: he had helped in aiding those dunderheads in the Ministry to actuallysee that he had returned. Joke was on them. “But if he could easily send in his Death Eaters to spy, than surely snatching me or any other student as leverage would be simple for him.” It was a scary thought, to think the one place you thought safe was not as safe as one might think. Unnerving actually, but a possibly that one had to think of.
He shouldn’t have felt that relieved to hear he would still be allowed to partake in the Hogsmeade village. He had once been restricted from going in his Third year; although that was mostly due to not having the slip signed by his guardian. But he suspected that he would have been denied anyways to keep Sirius save from him, even though his godfather had not been after him at all. But there were, of course, restrictions. Admittedly, he had seen this coming. But that did not mean he had to adhere to those restrictions. Not if they were merely suggestions. He would have to see to it that they only stayed Suggestions and did not become a ban outright, lest he lose his weekend privileges.
“And… if a move is made during one of those trips. I would lose those privileges out right?” It was supposed to be a statement, but came out more questioning than anything. Of course he knew he would lose those privileges. Dumbledore wouldn’t willingly let him continue to go; knowing that he could be snatched, or killed, so readily and easily. And once the Headmaster had his mind made up, that was it. No doubt the hidden passages would be heavily watched (for he knew nothing got past the Headmaster within the castle walls without his knowing) so sneaking in would be useless. He would be of age next year, and he knew that the adults could only protect him to a certain point. The rest was entirely up to him.
A sigh escaped him as he looked off to the side, once again tracing the thin scaring on the back of his hand: a new habit that had developed from the past year. He stared down at the words he had been forced to carve into his hands: I must not tell lies. Of course, he didn’t see why someone would lie in something as serious as another person’s death and the reason behind that person’s death, but who could understand the mind of those in charge. Sighing again, he reached up and massaged his temples; trying to stave off the headache that was slowly forming. This was: all too much for one night. His brain was spinning in a thousand different directions, causing him to wander if he could just stick his hand in his head and grab it to cease its movements.
It was comical, listening to Severus use words that would normally come out of a student’s mouth than his own. Yet laughing was the furthest thing from Harry’s mind. If Snape found it important enough to use words or phrases he himself wouldn’t use in his own daily speech than he was most definitely trying to drive home a point. Well, point received and checked. He knew Molly’s views on them knowing the happenings of the Order. She had made enough of fit last year for that to be known to anyone and everyone. But there was nothing she could do to stop Harry or Hermione from learning what was going on. They weren’t legally her responsibility, regardless of how well she had treated them or that she was the closest thing to a Mother that Harry had. She couldn’t stop them. But Ron she could. Ron was Her’s, and she had all the right to censor anything he heard.
But that wouldn’t stop Harry or Hermione from reiterating what they had learned to him. Because he was just as much a part of this as they were. Of course, if given his way he would have his two best friends as far from it all as possible. He didn’t want to risk them any more than they already were. But just by being his best friends, they were just as hated and wanted as he.
Ginny.
He felt his heart flutter and his stomach turn into an agonizing twist at her name. He quickly shook his head. “No. Absolutely not. I’d rather not have all my friends knowing dangerous information. They’re big enough targets as it is. No need to make them bigger ones.” Ron and Hermione were out of his control as far as helping him: they simply would not take no for an answer. But Neville, Luna, Ginny… He could protect them by making sure their knowledge was limited. Ginny had already been targeted for being his best friends little sister. The fact that their friendship was growing that he was becoming more and more infatuated with her. No. Absolutely not. He wouldn’t allow it.
Well obviously there was more to what he needed to do for his Auror training. McGonagall had gone into a bit more depth than that… But sadly not quite as much as he thought she would have. But then again, Dolores Umbridge had been trying to inject her own opinion of his never becoming an Auror if she or Fudge could help it. McGonagall had said that there may very well be a new Minister by the time he got there. Well, she was right: there was a new minister in charge. He didn’t know much about this Minister except that he apparently wanted an audience with him –he had no idea why- but that Dumbledore was keeping him away from Harry.
He arched a brow. All of this was not helping his headache. Honestly, there was only so much he could take of this. But, being that he knew so much about the Dark Arts, it would be beneficial for him to actually learn something from the man from that regard. It would be nice to have an ‘insiders’ point of view: both with Auror training from either Kingsley or Tonks and with knowing what exactly he would be up against in the ever changing world of the Dark Arts. In that, Snape was his best bet for learning. But he felt he was being to cooperative for one day for his health. “Perhaps.” The word was exhausted, almost like a plea for something to return to normal; something that he knew how to handle because a nice Severus Snape was not one of them.
“Malfoy’s not after me. If it were me he wanted, he had his opportunity on the train, and the only thing he gave me was a broken nose.” It seemed that whatever rivalry he had with Harry was still just that for the time being. And in any case, he wasn’t extremely worried about Malfoy. When push came to shove, Malfoy was nothing but a little wimp. He always needed someone there to have his back or had to cheat in some form in order to have the upper hand. No, he wasn’t worried about that.
He wandered if he had said something wrong. Snape was a bit to quite for his liking. After all, he had never given the Potions Master something to mull over before: at least not in a positive way. Usually when Snape as quiet for so long (if ever with Harry) it was to formulate a snide remark about his limited intelligence and somehow make a rude comment about his father. He was not, however, prepared for Snape to basically tell him how correct his rambling had been. He hadn’t even expected the man to make heads or tails of his words; much less to think them over.
Snape didn’t want him to trust him? That seemed… odd. And it seemed like Snape was just begging for Harry to act out at him, to give him a reason to detest him so. So very true. To be cunning, one had to have the intellect to be so. Alike, yet so very different. So much like Voldemort and himself. Both Dark haired youths, both orphaned. Both destined for great things.
It is our choices, Harry, that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities.
Dumbledore had told him that once, trying to emphasize the vast difference between Voldemort and himself. Just as vast a difference as Cunning and intellect. While they were essentially one and the same; they were vastly different depending on how they were used. “So you want Professor Dumbledore to keep me in the dark on why I should trust you. That just breeds more problems than it solves.”
He wanted to meet his desires by being reckless like a Gryffindor? Well that made no sense at all! But – if he were to stop and think about it – it really did.“It almost seems as if you’re ashamed of your desires. Or the reasoning behind them.” But perhaps that was the difference between them. Between Gryffindor and Slytherin. It could be that he wasn’t so much ashamed or embarrassed as he was just going about it a different way to achieve them. While Harry, personally, and in all of his Gryffindor glory, would have just stood firm on his resolve: and damn the consequences. And while the end result, the end game, may be the same, the journey getting there could vary vastly.
He read the arched brow for what it was: a question to the mentioning of his Muggle Aunt and Uncle. He shrugged his shoulders slightly. “It’s a sad day when I’d rather be in your company than theirs.” Of course, figuring out who was nastier towards him would be extremely difficult: and not worth the agony going through fifteen years of memories it would undoubtedly bring. But as he saw it, his Aunt and Uncle would have roughly seventeen years to make his life miserable over the seven Snape would get.
“So what do we do now then?” Honestly he had better thoughts on how to spend his evening. Like getting started on the homework Snape had assigned for class. But if he knew Snape (and he was really starting to question if he did or not) then he wouldn’t end their discussion until he felt everything that needed to be said was said and covered. Regardless of what work still needed to be done.
